Turaida estate is mentioned in the documents in the end of 16th century. Administrative centre of estate formed in the yard of Medieval castle but maintenance buildings afar – near roads, fields and pasture. Through the centuries maintenance centre of estate extended. Up to nowadays 15 buildings have survived and some of them are more than 200 years old. House of estate manager, fish basement, dog keeper’s cattle shed, smithy, granary, kiln and other buildings are available for visitors. Most of them are restaured and there are arranged interesting exhibitions about history of estate in the course of 300 years. In nowadays among other estates Turaida is notable for renewed ponds. Since 16th century maps depict several ponds in the centre of estate. In the beginning of 20th century there was a rapid growth of fish farm. In the natural ravines made by rivulets there was made a cascade of ponds with more than 40 small ponds. There were bred carps /Cyprinus Carpo, Linn/ and tench /Tinca tinca, Linn/. As beautiful accent there were orfas / Leuciscus idus aberratio orfus, Linn/. Fish basement was built to store and sell alive fish in winter. Visitors can be acquainted with 14 renewed ponds of fish farm, to see exhibition of tools used in pond management in fish basement and you may obtain licence for fishing.

Territory of estate is available for visitors all year round without vacations, exhibitions from 01.05. – 01.11. from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
