In autumn season Turaida Museum Reserve invites families, friends, pupils and tourist groups to spend time in museum in unusual way and to learn in exiting manner about history of Latvia, participating in educational program „Paying a Visit to Turaida Bailiff” and in orientation game „Story of Millenium”.

Participation in these programs is an attractive way to acquaint yourself with museum and a great possibility how to celebrate birthday or enrich corporative event.

Program „PAYING A VISIT TO TURAIDA BAILIFF”



In the autumn days the administrator of Turaida Castle – Bailiff invites everybody to the Northern Tower of Turaida Castle, where prevails medieval atmosphere and in fireplace cosily sputter wood. The participants of the program will perform a role play, dressed up into costumes of knights, noblewomen or submissive servants. They will master greeting manners, write ancient letters on the fragrant wax tables and prepare special documents for taking along.

THE MEN, WHO ARE CELEBRATING BIRTHDAY are invited to live their part as Turaida Bailiff and invite their guests to Turaida Castle. In its turn FOR CHILDREN we offer to become a daughter or son of bailiff, receiving special attention from the castle people and arrived guests.

THE NEWLYWEDS and wedding guests Turaida Bailiff will kindly welcome in the warm rooms of the Northern Tower. They will dress up into costumes of medieval people and participate in the festive ceremony, during which Turaida Bailiff will knight the newlyweds. The new family will have an opportunity to attest their writing skills, but the wedding guests will make a surprise gift for newlyweds.

Orientation game „STORY OF MILLENIUM”



Active and sportive visitors are invited to participate in orientation game, visiting Turaida Museum
Reserve and enjoying picturesque snowy landscapes. The task of participants is to compete in searching of museum monuments and objects, indicated on the map. The game has several degrees of complexity for different age groups and the winners will receive surprise gifts.

Turaida Museum Reserve kindly invites you to visit Turaida from the 1st until 8th of August, when will be celebrated the Week of Turaida Castle. It is continuation to the campaign „Let`s visit Latvian Castles, Palacies and Manors!” organized by Association of Latvian Castles, Palaces and Manors.

Each day, within frame of this week, there will be organized various interactive activities in the castle yard: by listening to the stories about the castle and participating in the guided tours the visitors will be offered to learn about the history of the castle in the course of 800 years. At the weekend there will be fortunetelling by Treyden (Turaida) cards, castle building workshop for children and concerts in the castle yard.

On Friday, August 6th, at 5:30 p.m. on the 3rd floor of the Western Block of Turaida Castle there will be open a new digital programme „Maija – The Rose of Turaida”, where is generalized information about the faithful virgin Maija – The Rose of Turaida, as well as information about the influence of this romantic legend on various branches of artworks, its cultural and historical significance and a tradition of newlyweds nowadays.


1st August at 4:00 p.m. Concert „Music in the Castles and Curches”

The week of the castle will be opened by vocal group „Putni”(„Birds”), Ivars Cinkus, clavecin, voice, Antra Dreģe, voice, Iveta Romancāne, voice, Sanda Audere, voice, recorder, Ainārs Paukšēns, cello.

During the programme the opuses of the prominent composers of the previous centuries - V.A.Mozart, J.K.Bach, C.Monteverdi, H.Persel and H.Schutz will interchange the works of contemporary Latvian composers - A.Maskats, A.Selickis and M.Aldiņš.

A free guided tour to the exhibitions of Turaida Castle and talks about castle guard and most ancient firearms.

In the castle yard there will be brick making, castle building and painting workshops for children.

Free thematic guided tours about court trials in Turaida, visit to the castle prison and tasting of prisoner`s bread.
