West Block


Western Block built in the 15th century. The building has three floors and a basement. Exhibition arranged in the basement tells about history of Castle building in the course of several centuries (1214-1776). Looking at reconstruction drawings by architect G. Jansons, you can follow its history  starting from the beginning and till the 17th century. Most of the exhibits – building materials, tools, household objects and others have been found in archaeological excavations. In the course of centuries Turaida has been closely connected with destiny of  Germany, Poland, Sweden, Russia and other countries. Visiting exhibitions on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor you can learn about Turaida Castle and region in the context of Latvian and European historical events.
