The New Residence
of the Estate Governor
This wooden building was erected in 1901 for the
estate governor and his family. The interior has a free
plan with representational, residential and house-
hold rooms.
After agrarian reforms in 1920, the building was taken
over by the Turaida Parish, and the local elementary
school was installed there. During the Soviet era, the
Turaida kolkhoz had its office here, along with a club
and a library. The Turaida Museum Reserve took it
over in 1997. From 1998 until 2000, the building was
restored and renovated. This is one of the best-restored
examples of wooden architecture inLatvia. The building
now houses the administration of the reserve, and it has
a conference and exhibition room, as well.

Behind the new residence of the estate governor is a
garden of medicinal plants and flowers which was
planted in the spring of 1995.
