See You in Turaida!
The Turaida Museum Reserve has been developed via
dialogue with the public, with the main accent being
on lifelong education at the museum. Visitors have
many choices in terms of gaining new knowledge,
experience and joy about information. There are
various educational and free time opportunities here,
including visits to exhibitions, consultations, tours
with knowledgeable guides, interactive educational
programmes, lectures, seminars and conferences about
tangible and intangible cultural heritage, etc. Each
month there are special events or holiday celebrations
outdoors, the focus being on the wealth of
archaeological, architectural, historical and intangible
culture in Turaida.
Educational programmes at the Turaida Museum
Reserve are popular among schoolchildren and adults
who love role playing which allows them to become
respective citizens from the Middle Ages. They take
part in programmes such as “Visiting the Chief Judge
of Turaida,” compete at orienteering in a programme
called “The Story of Millennium” or turning into Livs,
learn about the story of the Horse of Destiny, and about
other secrets from the Gauja Livs. Emotional moments
are experienced at Turaida by newlyweds who take part
in programmes such as “The Secret of Seven Scarves”
and “A Wedding Visit to the Chief Judge of Turaida.”
Groups of schoolchildren come from all over Latvia to
learn about history via programmes such as “Of What
is the Turaida Castle Built?”, “Enter the World of Folk
Songs”, and “Christmas at the Turaida Estate.”
