assembled in the 19th century when investigators of the ancient times paid more atten-
tion to historical monuments located in the surroundings and performed there archaeo-
logical excavations. Frequently also searchers of riches unearthed the ancient burials or
bought up antiquities from local inhabitants. One of these investigators was also pastor of
Krimulda parish – Carl Christian Ulmann (1793–1871), who lived in Englarte manor in
the 19th century, in the territory of which the hoard was found. Probably, the hoard is a
part from his assembled artefacts.
During the First World War, nearby the hoard’s location there was a combat
between Russian and German armies. Taking into account the fact that the hoard was
found in the entrenchment of the First World War, it may be considered that probably
afterwards it was hidden anew not far from the initial findspot.
