izmantotas to ietīšanai.

A fragment of linen fabric was found, which was used for wrapping artefacts disco-
vered in a hoard. The size of the fragment is 70 × 172 cm, and one of its ends was tied with
a thread. The bleached fabric is woven in plain weave using single-ply Z-spun threads (1/1).
The density of the fabric is 13 × 18 threads per cm

. Along the whole length of the sample
a 6 mm wide seam has been preserved. The edges are sewn together and folded in the op-
posite directions. The fabric is frayed, which could indicate that it previously had a different
use. It is possible that a fragment of a worn out shirt (for example, a sleeve) was used for
wrapping the hoard. Even though it is just an assumption, it is more likely than a possibility
that the bag was made of previously unused fabric for preservation of various objects. Such
an approach could have been used over a long period of time.
Similar fabric used for shirts, as well as a similar method of joining the edges dates
back to Late Iron Age and was still used at the beginning of the 19th century. It is not pos-
sible to establish the time when the fabric was created without performing the necessary
analyses.
