Wilhelm Tusch. A view to the Turaida castle ruins from the southeast, around 1830. Water- colour painting.
LAB.
The castle ruins are depicted from distance with the remains of the main tower. On the left form it, above the trees, there are
visible outlines of the large semi-round tower. On the right – residential building of the landlord, built in 1786. Behind the ruins, you
can see tile roofs of economic buildings of estate, but on the left form the castle – an ancient hillfort – Kārļa hill. In the foreground –
the meadows of the Gauja flood-lands. In ancient times they were not overgrown by trees, because there were farmsteads in the
ancient valley and surrounding fields were used as a pasture for domestic animals and for hay supply. The drawing is made for
Paulucci album, included in Vidzeme volume, compiled in 1829-1830.
