Wilhelm Siegfried Stavenhagen. Turaida and the ancient valley of the River Gauja, around 1860. Steel engraving.
A view to the Turaida castle ruins from the north-east, from the former Jelgavkalns (nowadays – hill of Dainas). From the
ruins behind the trees can be seen the main tower and large semi-round tower as well as residential building of the estate’s
landlord. The Turaida castle ruins are encircled by the landscape, formed by the ancient Gauja valley. On the opposite side of
the valley there are viewed the ruins of Sigulda Order’s castle and economic buildings of estate. The engraving is included in
the album of Vidzeme landscapes, published in Jelgava in 1866.
