O.Silling. The Turaida castle, 1897. Water-colour painting.
LAB.
The drawing was made according to the work of copper engraver Andreas Löwis of Menar in 1821 which was published
in his own collection. This engraving was dedicated to the civil governor of Estonain province – Gottfried Wilhelm Budberg and
landlord of the Turaida estate – Lorenz von Campenhausen. The ruins are depicted from the castle yard – the southern part.
On the left is depicted stable, built in the 19th century. Behind - the remains of the large semi-round tower and west block, built
in the 15th-16th century. In the central part – the ruins of the main tower, built in the 13th century. On the right – the new
residential building of the landlord of Turaida estate, built in 1786. The drawing later was included in Paulucci album.
