Wilhelm Tusch. A view to the Sigulda castle ruins from the north-west, around 1830. Water-colour painting,
LAB.
The Castle ruins are depicted
on the bank of the ancient Gauja valley. Behind them – Sigulda Lutheran Church and
manor buildings. The drawing is included in the so-called Paulucci album. The album is made according to decree (ukaz) issued
in 1826 by the government of Russian Empire on „Collection of information about remains of ancient buildings in the cities and
prohibition to destroy them.” It was named after Philip Paulucci, a marquis and governor-general of that time in the Baltic
provinces. Perhaps, it was he, who gave the order to make this album. The author of the drawing W.Tusch was a district
auditor, surveyor and painter in Vidzeme
