International folklore festival “Baltica” takes place in Turaida Museum Reserve

On July 7, 2022 starting from 3:30 p.m. until the very evening, the international folklore festival “Baltica” will sound in the Turaida Museum Reserve.

The game will happen in the variety of songs, sonorous melodies, plays and dances. Playing. Interplay. Throughout all life, because Laima is a lifetime determiner. Because the Sun went to play. Because life has its own rules, just like the game. You can win by playing, but you can also gain by losing. A game of luck- will this autumn you be taken out into the nations, will there be a real ploughman, will life be happy and fulfilled? It was important in the past and is important now.

The joy of play can be seen both in the children’s first play and in the look of the girl and boy when they meet for the first time, it is present both when doing chores and celebrating holidays. Giving love, inspiration, strength and support to others, making lifetime easy.

My tongue is like a game, I don’t need a games – when nurturing and providing, protecting and singing.

In the afternoon, from 15:30 to 17:30 on Dainu hill, folklore and ethnographic ensembles from various regions of Latvia will sing their brightest songs, while in Jāņkalns, ethnomusicologist and kokle (harp) player Ansis Jansons, who is known as the founder and leader of the school “Kokļu mežs”, will invite you to play kokli.

“Turaida museum reserve, Dainu hill is a favourite meeting place of the festival participants, where joy and togetherness are increased during all years while festival is organised in Latvia. A place where, as the group members say, they can find harmony with themselves and nature both while playing and celebrating holidays. At the opening concert, everyone will be able to indulge in the joy of playing, listening to the stories of songs about relationships that have been intertwined for hundreds of years with the hope, in other words, playing on the same note. Because the game is like life, and life is like a game,” says concert director Anda Skuja.
