At 18.00 the opening concert of the festival "Playing such a evening" will be performed in the song garden, where more than 50 members of folklore groups and ethnographic ensembles from Vidzeme, Latgale, Sēlija, Kurzeme and Zemgale, Latvian diaspora folklore group "Dūdalnieki" and "Rēvele", as well as guests from neighbouring countries - Lithuanian folk groups "Labingis" and "Ratilio", Estonian singers from Serves in Saaremaa and musicians from Mooste folk club.
After the concert in the Song Garden for one hous, starting from 8:30 p.m., the Great Singing will continue, where the festival participants will sing popular folk songs together with the audience.
"Turaida museum reserve, Dainu hill is a favourite meeting place of the festival participants, where joy and togetherness are increased during all years while festival is organised in Latvia. A place where, as the group members say, they can find harmony with themselves and nature both while playing and celebrating holidays. At the opening concert, everyone will be able to indulge in the joy of playing, listening to the stories of songs about relationships that have been intertwined for hundreds of years with the hope, in other words, playing on the same note. Because the game is like life, and life is like a game," says concert director Anda Skuja.
As a special greeting to the participants of the folklore festival, the Turaida Museum Reserve has prepared two exhibitions - "The united time. Gunārs Krollis is 90" and the open-air exhibition "Folksong on Dainu hill", which will represent photo moments from previous "Baltica" festivals. Since the very first time in 1988, several folklore festival "Baltica" activities has always been held in Turaida Museum Reserve - Dainu hill and Song Garden.
In 2022, the theme of the international folklore festival "Baltica" is "Game" and the motto is "Come play with me". "Baltica" has been taking place in one of the Baltic states since 1987, with the cooperation of state and municipal institutions, as well as non-governmental organizations. This year, the festival is organized by the Latvian National Culture Center in cooperation with the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, Turaida Museum Reserve, Kuldigas County Municipality, Riga City Council, Sigulda County Municipality, Talsi County Municipality, Ventspils County Municipality and Ventspils Culture Center.
Entrance fee to the events of the "Baltica" folklore festival in the open-air expositions of the Turaida Museum Reserve according to the price list - 2.85 euros.
